In the final years of the 21st Century, mankind stood on the brink of self extinction. Despite expanding out to the Moon and to a limited extent, Mars, nearly a hundred years of racial tensions and border wars had built to a climax. Fearing the end of humankind, millions turned to the heavens and prayed for salvation. And from the heavens salvation came, though no one would have ever predicted its form and manner.
Out beyond Saturn, a single ship appeared, and began broadcasting a single message.
“Help Us.”
The race to the stars was on.
The ship was a gift from the alien K'klk, and within it was the secret to FTL travel, the door to the hyperspace threads left behind by an ancient race known as the Builders. All mankind had to do was help the K'klk in their war with the reptilian S'sri, a task easier said than done. The S'sri were not looking to conquer the K'klk, they were eating them.
But humanity prevailed, and the S'sri were driven back to their homeworld. It is now 2523 and humans have spread to the hundreds of star systems along the FTL threads known as The Tangle, bringing all of their virtues and vices with them.
Amid The Tangled Stars is my Traveller campaign with more of a hard sci-fi leaning.
